EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS.
There is now on view at Messrs Wyllie and Mason’s auction mart a very beautiful collection of pictures by J. Douglas Perrett ‘ and others, which have already attracted a great many people, who have greatly admired them.’ ■_ Some of our citizens who are good judges of art express a very high opinion of them. These gems of Now Zealand and other scenery comprise oil and pastel pictures of lakes, sounds, and rivers, the largest being a very .fine view of Lake Manapouri, a range •of snow ■ clad mountains (the Cathedral peaks) in the background, with bush-clad islands in the middle distance, and a very pretty' foreground, the whole lighted up by the soft warm “light of the evening sun. Other picture’s that we were much pleased with were George Sound, Breaksea Sound, Lake Te Anau, and a beautiful panel picture of Wanganui is one of the gems of the collection. There are ulf? subjects nearer hems 3£’l)ich are very fine and faithful to the scelhes ’which they represent (Lake Waikaremoana and Te Reihga Falls). There are .many 'others ‘which would well repay inspection, but lovers of art ■’would do well to see them. The pictures will be on view daily till day of sale (Wednesday, at 2 p.m.), when they will be sold by .auction, we understand, with little or no reserve, and we have no doubt most, if not all, of them will find a home in the district. The collection will also be on view to-night from 7 to 9,30,
