A Sad Domestic Life.

ALLEGED THAT CRUELTY DROVE A WIFE TO TRY SUICIDE.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night.

Annie Eolfe pleaded guilty at the Police Court to having attempted suicide by taking strychnine. Sub-Inspector Mitchell said that from what he had heard the unfortunate woman had been the victim of continuous cruelty at the hands of her husband, and this had driven her to the attempt to take her life.

Mrs Rolfo said she had been married fifteen years. Her husband had made her life a burden to her by cruelty, and on the morning in question nearly drove her mad. She intended, if acquitted on the present charge, to apply for a separation order, and promised not to attempt to take her life again. The husband denied the allegations of cruelty. His Worship said ho would accept tho defendant’s statement, and she would be discharged. He advised her to institute separation proceedings forthwith.
