TEMPTING FATE.
PLAYING WITH TIGERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, last night. Sydney papers state that at Wellington (N.S.W.) on Friday Me Carl Wirth was putting three tigers through their performance and sat on the back of a tiger. The animal turned on him, inflicting severe wounds on his thigh. At the performance in the evening a similar mishap occurred. Tommy Dollar, a menagerie attendant, who had never before entered the cage, undertook the task. On entering the cage he was immediately attacked by the Tiger Pasha, and sustained a severe, but not serious, bite on the leg. Mr Wirth suffered intense agony on Sunday, and it is feared that bloodpoisoning has set in. Wirths’ original tamer, who left the company previously, was attacked by Pasha on five different occasions, Pasha is now caged for exhibition ably.
