Tho Native Minister has declined to agree to issue free railway passes to Maliuta to enable him to proceed to Auckland with 800 or 400 followers-, to make a display at the welcome to the Duke of Cornwall. POULTRY. Five coops of pure-bred fowls are coming in the Rakaia, consigned to the Government. They are Brown Leghorns, Ply--tnouth Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, and Langshans. The poultry coming forward to the Government depot are not altogether suitable for export. Of 169 birds received since Saturday’, two-thirds have been rejected. In-breeding is said to be the main reason for the inferiority of the birds. FEDERATION COMMISSION. The Federation Commission are at present sitting at. Parliamentary Buildings considering their report. FIRE BRIGADE. The annual report of the superintendent of the Municipal Fire Brigade states that during the year 96 fires occurred, making a total loss for the' year of '£22,403.
