LYTTELTON MAY BE BASE OF OPERATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. Mr C. Coleridge Farr, who is superintending the erection of the Magnetic Observatory at Christchurch, has received a letter from Sir Clements Markham, President of the Royal Geographical Society, asking for information concerning the Observatory, and whether it will be in working order when the Antarctic expedition arrives in Australia next October, and he indicates the possibiiity of Lyttelton being made the base of operations instead of Melbourne.
