FRASERTOWN.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Frasertown School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Saturday, 27th April. Present : Messrs E. Hallett (chairman), S. J. Bennett, G. Beckett, T. J. Tunks, G. Rigby, A. G. Smith. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Tho teacher’s report was read, showing that the attendance was falling off, and “ that tho services of the public teacher would probably be lost at the end of the present quarter ” ; also stating that an account was enclosed with the report for “ a case of biscuits, authorised by tho committee, to be purchased for the Maoris.” The report then went on to say, “ supplying them (the Maoris’ children) with biscuits certainly has not been a success so far. Perhaps the Mohaka plan would be more successful. There the committee supply them with lollies, games, picture books, and cough mixture.” The Chairman considered that the tone of the report, liko a good many previous reports, was disrespectful. Members concurred, and generally considered that the report could not be adopted. Ultimately it was decided that the report be “received.” On the motion of Mr Hallett, seconded by Mr G. Beckett, it was decided to draw new specifications for caretaker’s duties, and tenders be called for last Saturday in May. Proposed bv Mr Hallett, seconded by Mr G. Beckett, that the secretary he instructed to notify members of the committee — “ That the question of the removal of the teacher would be considered at-the next monthly meeting of the Committee on the 25th May.”—Carried. Some accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting closed. An auction sa’e of the household effects of Mr A. R. McKain, who is leaving the district, was held yesterday. Most of tho articles submitted were cleaved at fair prices. A large tangi is being held at Pakowhai, the occasion being the death of the child of"Te Hata te Poki, a person of rank hmong his. tribe.
