QUARTER MONEY.
(To the Editor.) Sit;.—l have heard the. above subb't talked over pretty freely of late. Uf course l now refer to the Bil per quarter paid by the smaller children in our public school and the 0,1 per quarter by the older ones. Now. Mr Editor, a child of six years old cannot use pencils nor ink to "the amount of 3d per quarter, and if they fail (that is, some of them) to bring the said 3d the result is the cane. Not very encouraging for kiddies to attend sebook is it'. 1 . ~ Now. sir. the whole thing resolves itself into one point. Some people assert that this is the only school in the district where quarter money is paid, and I have been told that in this school there are some who do not, and will not, pay it. May be that either yourself, sir, or some of yout numerous readers oau say for certain whether quarter money is law, according to the Hawke’s Bay ‘Education Board, or not,— I am, etc., Inquirer.
