Intimation has been received that the Bruce Woollen Mills have been destroyed by fire. There are no details to hand. The damage, if everything is burnt, will be about twenty-seven thousand pounds. Word was received by the Dunedin Fire Brigade through the Railway Department, asking for assistance, but as it would have taken two hours to get up steam and there was only the manual engine available, no assistance was sent. The fire at the Bruce AVoollen Mills originated in the engine or boiler room. There is no local fire brigade there, and the crowd'which gathered could only save a portion of-the stock, none of the valuable new machinery being saved. Tho insurances amount 'to .£24,800 equally divided between the Victoria and Alliance. Both companies are re-insured.
