FIGHT WITH SLAVE RAIDERS.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, April 25. Brigadier-General F. D. Lugard, Governor of Northern Nigeria, despatched Colonel G. W, Kemball, with four hundred men of the West African frontier force, against the Emirs of Kontagora and Bida, two of the strongest slave raiders in Northern Nigeria. A desperate fight took place outside Kontagora with five thousand natives, who repeatedly charged within 30 yards of the Maxims.

Ultimately the natives were routed with heavy loss. The large cities of Kontagora and Bida were occupied, garrisoned, and new rulers installed. The British losses wero nominal. As the result of the fight one thousand slaves were released.
