ITEMS FROM WESTPORT.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Westport, last night. At a largely-attended meeting of tho Westport Chamber of Commerce to-night it was resolved to co-operate with the Gisborne Chamber in resisting the proposal to increase the fire insurance rate in the North Island. One member remarked that if agents were not so anxious to get tho premiums, and were more careful in seeing what they were insuring, there would be less loss by fire, and no necessity for increasing the rate. It was also resolved that the Government be approached as to the advisability of advertising in the colonial and Home papers tho valuable coal areas in the Buller district.
