By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Wellington Racing Club’s autumn meeting opened to-day. The xveather was fine, but cold, a nor’-west bloxving in the latter part of the day. There xvere about 3000 people present, and £8512 xvas put through the totalisator, as against £8973 for the first day of last year. The folloxving are the results : IVaixveta Handicap.—Ostiak 1, Waterford 2, Cameo 3. Also ran : Battleaxe, Hempie, IVestguard. It was a splendid race doxvn the straight, Ostiak xvinning by a length. Time 1.32, div. £2 19s. Maiden Hack Race.—Shrapnel ShelL_l,

Durable 2, Fakir 3. Also ran: IVaif, White Heather, Jaitoa, Benefactor, and Steel Gun. It xvas a splendid race. Won by a head. Time 1.16 4-5, div. £5 6s. Thompson Handicap.—Boreas 1, Rosella 2, Glenaladale 3. All started. There xvas a splendid race doxvn the straight, Boreas xvinning by half a length. Time 1.42 3-5, div. £4 16s.

Handicap Hurdles.—Right Metal 1, Vanquish 2, Sudor 3. Scratched : The Guard. IVon by txvo lengths. Vanquish’s rider finished holding on to his saddle, which had slipped half a mile from home ; otherwise he might have’ won, Time, 3.164. Div., £5. IVelter Handicap.—Ostiak 1, Dartmoor 2, Volley 3. All started. IVon comfortably by a length and a half. Time, 2.31-5. Div., £4 2s.

At tho Epsom Spring Meeting the City and Suburban Handicap resulted : Australian. Star 1, Amurath 2, Alveseot 3. IVon by six lengths. Tho betting xvas 9 to 2 against Australian Star and Alvcscot, 25 to 1 Amurath.
