WELLINGTON NEWS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Mr Hogg has been appointed a member of the Wellington Land Board, The Premier has received a cable message from Sydney, stating that no person had any authority to recruit for Colonial or Imperial forces in New Zealand. statement emanating from Christchurch a few days officer was recruiting there for a Soun, African regiment, therefore, lacked one essential—namely, the person on whose authority the men are being enrolled. The statement in this week’s Gazette shows the discount stamp transactions for the month ending March 31. Stamps amounting to £159 15s were sold, of which £6O were at Wellington and £23 at the Thames. Only 17s worth was redeemed. The uhsold stamps on hand amounted to £622 15s.
The Kaitangata- Belief Fund now shows a balance of £3,476 17s Bd. During the year the sum of £434 11s 4d was disbursed to 16 beneficiaries. There is also mortgage security valued at £2,500, bringing the value of the fund up to £5,976.
