The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, APRIL 24, 1901. BOROUGH ELECTION.
To-day tlie burgesses of Gisborne will be called on to select nine men to control the affairs of the Council. The election takes place under the new Act, all the Councillors retiring, while under the old system only three would retire at a time. There are nine seats to be filled, and there is every reason to feel pleased with the number of candidates offering their services. Throughout the colony keen interest is being taken in the municipal contests, and there is evidence that Gisborne will not be wanting in that respect. One pleasing feature of the contest is that a number of the young men are evincing a desire to' take an active part in the carrying out of public duties. There is plenty of work for the new Council to do, and the electors should cast their votes with duo deliberation.
