HAPIER NEWS.
RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Napier, last night. The man Weaver, injured to-day in the train aeeidont, is now in the hospital, and the doctors have pronounced the case hopeless. The accident is tho third of a serious nature which has occurred at the same spot. At the Council meeting tonight it was resolved to ask Government to have a signalman placed at that crossing, to warn people of approaching trains, or failing that to erect gates at the crossing, to be closed at the times when the trains pass. MAYOR’S ADDRESS. The Mayor delivered a short valedictory address at the Council meeting to-night, reviewing many of the principal works carried out during his mayoralty. MR S AIN SB UR Y. A profound sensation was created here to-night on receipt of the news of Mr G. E. Sainsbury being washed overboard from the s.s. Monowai. Deceased was a member of the well-known firm of Sainsbury and Logan, solicitors, and acted as counsel for several local bodies. He recently conducted, with marked ability, the proceedings in the Hatuma case on behalf of Mr Purvis Russell. He was highly respected, both locally and in legal circles throughout the colony.
