HAWERA’S WATER SUPPLY.
THE INSURANCE RATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association). Haw-ora, last night. . The water and drainage works - were formally handed over to the Borough Council last evening by Mr Leslie H. Reynolds, C.E., upon whose plans the works were carried out. Councillors expressed themselves very pleased with the manner in which the works have been completed, and votes of thanks 'and appreciation were accorded to Mr Reynolds aud the Resident Engineer, Mr W. J. Yale.
Mr Reynolds said the water pressure far exceeded the estimate, and the supply was thoroughly efficient, while the drainage scheme was up-to-date. During the discussion one of the Councillors stated that intimation had been received that owing to the excellence of the water supply, the underwriters had decided, while arranging higher rates, that fire insurance premiums in Hawera would be lower than in any other part of the North Island.
After the meeting “ Success to the Waterworks" and the health of the Engineers was drunk in champagne.
