FIRE AT PONSONBY
[by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, last night. A firo occurred to-night in Ponsonby, resulting in tho almost entire destruction of the shop and contents of Lambournc and Dewar’s, ironmongers and furniture dealers; J; J. Cassidy, milliner and fancy goods dealer, aud H. and J. Harrisons, pork butchers. The fire had a linn hold beforo tho brigade arrived, aud at first it appeared as if tho whole block of somo dozen buildings, all built of wood, would bo burned. The fire, however, was confined to the shops mentioned, all of which wore, gutted, very little stock boiug saved. All the shops destroyed were owned by Messrs Lambournc and Dewar, who estimated their loss at about £BOOO. The insurances aro about £5500 in tho Royal. The insurances, on tho stocks of Cassidy and Harrison cannot at present be ascertained.
