Berlin, April 12. The fire aboard the Kaiser Frederick was caused by the concussion when she struck forcing a fluid fuel called Masut, stored in the double hold under the battleship’s furnaces, iuto the furnace-room.
Colombo, April 12. The Ophir has arrived at Colombo. The voyage across the Indian Ocean from Aden was perfect. Fetes were held at Colombo and Kandy, and were a brilliant success. The decorations and illuminations were on a lavish scale, and enthusiastic crowds congregated everywhere that their Royal Highnesses went. Sympathetic addresses were presented by the principal public bodies. The Duke and Duchess are in the best of health and spirits. London, April 12. All the Devonport flotilla, consisting of eight torpedo'destroyers, sent for a throe weeks’ cruise, were crippled by a heavy wave in the Bristol Channel, The destroyer Seal struck the full force of the wave, and her back was broken. It is feared the damage is irreparable. The Bat and the Wolf are leaking. The Locust had insufficient engine powor. A grocer was fined at Southwark for selling French butter containing 62 grains of boracic acid to the pound.
