AUCKLAND SPECIAL.
THE PREMIER. ■ [Special to Trans.] Auckland, last night. The Premier, who has been in Greymouth during the last few days by the bedside of a dying friend, was to return to Wellington to-day. SUDDEN DEATH. A terribly sudden death occurred in a Ponsonby tram car last evening. A widow named Margaret Dooley, aged ,0, died whilst sitting in the tram car. It appears that she got in at Newton, and by the time the car had reached the Three Lamps a well-known ex-Gisborneite residing in Ponsonby was acquainted of the fact b,y one of the passengers remarking on the peculiar upright position in which Mrs Dooley was sitting. The young Gisborneito stepped forward and felt tiio unfortunate lady’s pulse, and exclaimed, “ Why, she is dead 1 ” much to the astonishment of the lady passengers. The car consisted mostly of lady passengers, and they really thought that the old lady was asleep, until the Gisborne young man came on the scene.
