PERSONAL.
Mr E. P. Joyce leaves for Auckland by tho Te Anau this morning. Mr B. N. Jones leaves for Auckland and Rotorua this morning. Mr and Mrs A. Clirisp leave by tho Te Anau this morning for Auckland, on route for Rotorua. Mr Dalrympic, Government Inspector of machinery, leaves for Auckland this morning. Mr Holmes, late of the Napier Post Office, who is reinforcing the ranks of the local staff, arrives this morning in the Te Anau. Messrs Macfarlane, Matthews, Townley, and Whinray have been appointed to present the claims of the district to the attention of the Minister for Lands. His Honor Judge Batham will hold a sitting of the Native Land Court at Awanui at an early date. He leaves for Omapere on Friday next. Messrs R. Cole, A. W. Adair, W. S. McCredie, and W. Miller have been appointed asub-committee to 'draw up a set of rules in connection with the district football scheme.
Constable Oliphant, of Napier, is at present doing relieving duty in Gisborne. “ Bob,” as he is known to his friends, is one of the best all-round athletes in the North Island, and there is not a more popular member of the police force. The Rev. Vincent and Mi’s Vincent, who have been residing in this district during the past year, intend returning to England at the end of next month. The rev. gentleman has made himself very popular in athletic circles, and his departure from Gisborne will be much regretted.. ■ . Sefg’t. J. Toinbleson, with his accustomed generosity, is presenting a gold medal and seven cash prizes for competition among the members of the East Coast Mounted Rifles at a motch which is to be arranged for Easter Monday. Entries close with Lieutenant Miller on Saturday evening.
We regret to learn that our fellowtownsman, Mr'J. Sigley.'mfet yrith a painful accident yesterday afternoon. He tripped at the wooden crossing near the entrance to the post-office and fell heavily. It was at first feared that he had sustained a fractured limb, but fortunately th'c accident was not so' serious as that. Mr Sigley was conveyed to his home in a cab. His leg, which had been previously injured, was again affected by the fall. The patient is now doing well, but it' will be shine days- before be ig abje to get : about again,
