The British Legation at Pekin en;ertained the New South Wales con-
tingent prior to their departure for Australia. Sir Edward Satow, tho British Jdinistor, warmly thanked them for their admirable services. He remarked that not one single complaint had been made against any one of the New South Wales men. The Victorians had earned a similarly high reputation at Tientsin. . AN ARBITRARY ACT. Mr Kinder, an English ongineor constructing the railway siding at Tientsin, was stopped by tho Russian general Wogack, who claimod that the land belonged to tho new Russian concession.
Major-General Barrow ordered Mr Kinder to proceed with tho work by armed force if necessary. General Wogack has appealed to M. de Giers, the Russian Minister.
