Wellington, last night. - The following movements of colonial mails are announced by the Postal Department Those by the Oroya from Melbourne on February 6th were delivered in London on March 9th, one day early ; those by the Alameda from Auckland on (February 6th were delivered in London on March 9th, one day late; those by the Warrimoo from Sydney on January 30th were delivered in London on March 10, four days late. ' Auckland, last night.
The Waikare was released from quarantine this morning, after 24 hours’ detention. All on board are well.
Mr Duncan, Minister for Lands, 1 eft Paeroa for Tauyahga- and Rotorua to day. The serious silting up of the Paeroa river from the tailings of mines will be brought before him. Napier, last night. The Premier has wired that he will strain every nerve to be present at the opening of the new Masonic Hall at Hastings to-morrow evening. Wanganui, last night. Frank Lionel Holloway, who last week was caught red-handed at a burglary, when £3O worth of jewellery taken from a house in the suburbs was found on him, was this afternoon committed for trial. Accused was an escapee from Queensland, where he was sentenced to three years for burglary. Christchurch, last night.
At a meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club Committee, the trainer’s license of W. GL Taggart, was withdrawn, after the consideration of the report from the New Zealand Trotting Association.
The first shipment of pouliry from the newly-established poultry „ depot was made yesterday, one hundred brace going by the Alameda to South Africa.
At the Magistrate’s Court James Fergus son, a married man, was committed for trial on a charge of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of sixteen. It was alleged that the accused, in the absence of the girl’s mother, entered her cottage at Addington, and committed the offence.
