MEETING OF TEACHERS. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, last night. A largely-attended meeting of school
teachers in tho North Canterbury Educational District was held. After a lengthy discussion, the following motion was carried : —“ That pending the introduction of a colonial scale, this meeting of teachers approves of the action of the Government in voting money for an increase of teachers’ salaries, and respectfully requests the Department to leave the allocation of the grant in tho hands of the Boards for distribution.” SENIOR CRICKET. In the Senior Cup cricket yesterday the match Sydenham v. United was continued. The Sydenham innings closed for 84. The United made 132, and 40 for two wickets. In the match Midland against Lancaster the former made 220, and the latter §0 for five'wickets. • : ' ' “ON THE BALL.” The football season opened to-day with practice matches. STRANGE DEATH. William Lawson died at the hospital today from injuries which he said were inflicted by another man, but tho statement is not believed.
