(By Telegraph—Press Association). Wellington, last night. Old Age Pensions were paid as follows on the Ist inst. : Auckland 674, Wellington 235, Christchurch 540, Dunedin 497. The Wellington Ratepayers’ Association has drawn up a platform, which includes the municipalisation of electric light works and gas works. The Cabinet has decided that after separate sums available for each Education Board for increases of teachers’ salaries are set aside, the Boards be asked to submit to the Minister for Education proposals for further payments to teachers. The sum allocated for increases is not to be exceeded. The Government has received a cablegram stating that the Colchester police prefer that Lilywhite be sent Home direct instead of via British Columbia.

Latest advices show that Mr John McKenzie’s health is still improving. The Premier promised a deputation of prohibitionists this morning that he would have enquiries made into the allegation that a Justice of the Peace at Balclutha had admitted having taken liquor in a sly-grog house. The same deputation complained of comments made by Mr Stanford reflecting on a prohibitionist of Strathmore district, Taranaki. Mr Seddon declined to interfere with the Magistrate, and said public opinon tended in the direction of making magistrates as independent as Supreme Court Judges.
