RIGHT TO THE TAIERI RIVER.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, last night.

The application of the Town Clerk, on behalf of the Corporation, for the right to use the water of the Taieri river for the generation of electricity as a motive power for the city tramways and illuminating purposes, was granted by Mr "Warden Carew subject to the license being transferred to the Corporation before the construction of a dam> and on condition that the Corporation is liable for any damages caused through the construction breaking away or the failure of works.
