WARD BYSTEM ABOLISHED.

A WIDOW’S ALLOWANCE,

By Telegraph—Pross Association. Napier, last night.

At the meeting of the Napier Borough Council to-night, after a lengthy discussion, it was decided to abolish the ward system of representation, and in future Councillors will be elected by the whole of the ratepayers. A letter was received from Mrs Berry, widow of the late Lieut. Berry, who died from enteric fever in South Africa, stating that sho had received a first instalment of a pension of T 74 ,, and as it was understood that the Imperial pension would also be available, the Council decided to cease the present grant to this case.
