Mr H. D. Bell has been appointed Consul for Denmark at Wellington. The Rev. B. F. Rothwell is likely to bo stationed at Gisbqrne as the Wesleyan pastor. Mr F. Parker, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, left for Napier last night on a short visit. Messrs T. V. Aston and May left by the Elingamite last evening to take part in the band contest at Wanganui. Miss C. E. MacGregor, M.A., Dunedin, has been appointed assistant teacher at the Girls’ College, Nelson. Out of fourteen applicants Dr Hendry, of Port Chalmers, has been appointed medical superintendent of the Southland Hospital. The appointment is gazetted of Mr Thomas Gordon Lilico, M.R.C.V.S., as temporary veterinary surgeon to the Government,. "

Mr A. R. Muir left for Napier last night to be present at the annual meeting of the Press Association, which takes place in Napier to-morrow. Mr F. Crammond, who has been appointed local manager of the Union S.S. Company, is at present in Auckland, and will arrive here to take up his duties by the Waikare next week.

Mr J. Stewart, who has had charge of the local railway works, has been granted a couplo of months’ sick leave. Mr Stewart gives very close attention to what he has in hand, and is now paying the penalty of over-work. We hope to see him return fully restored to health. Yesterday afternoon Mr Walter Whyte, third son of Mr David Whyte, of Abbotsford, Tiniroto, was married to Miss Perry, eldest daughter of Mr J. M. Perry, of Gisborne. The ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev, J, Q. Paterson, assisted by the Rev. A. Whyte,' of’ Havelock fa brother of the bridegroom), was held at the residence of the bride’s parents. The bride, who was given away by her father, was tastefully attired in a brown Amazon travelling dress, trimmed with cream silk. The!bridesmaids were Misses Mary Perry, Nellie Whyte, Ruth Perry, and Effie and Rose Tombleson, whilst the bridegroom was attended by Messrs Stanley Muir and Charles Perry.
