OPPOSITION TO FEDERATION,

MR ROLLESTON’S IDEA.

By Telegraph—Per Press Association. Auckland, last night. The Federation Commission, sitting at Auckland, opened to-day, all the witnesses being opposed to Federation. The Hon. W. Rolieston said that a mutual federal tie without any surrender of local autonomy would be to the mutual advantage of Australia and New Zealand. Common interests could be regulated by a commercial treaty.

The evidence of the other witnesses was mainly a repetition of that given in the South. v
