PERSONAL.

It is stated that the Hon. W. Rolleston intends to again enter public life. His Honor Judge Batham holds a sitting of the Native Land Court at Awanui at an early date. Mr F. C. Huddlestone, artist, who has been in this district for the-past two years, leaves for the South at an early date. Mr M. G. Nasmith returned to town yesterday from Nuhaka, where he has been recruiting his health. Bishop Wilson, of Melanesia, is to arrive in Gisborne on the 16th inst. He is a speaker who always attracts a great crowd of hearers.

Mr E. Rangiuia, of Gisborne, has received many favorable criticisms from Southern critics for his singing and plaving.. It is stated that he shortly intends to visit London to complete his studies.

Mr J. N. Williams has offered to subsidise to the extent of £ for £-any donations given by those employed on his station towards the Victoria memorial school for Native girls. At the Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon last, afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames Garrett and Pousford. There was a large attendance of members and visitors.

Mr Andrew Graham, who represented St. Andrew’s Church at the Presbyterian Conference at Wanganui last week, will furnish a report to a local meeting to-mor-row evening.

It is stated that Mr J. H. Aisiabie intends to resign his position as secretary to the Poverty Bay Turf Club, and that Mr J. M. 'Cpmming is likely to be his successor.'

Mr Hursthouse, who is \vith the Hon. Mr Duncan, is a surveyor and oiie of the best authorities on the value and possibilities of the country lying between Taranaki and the Waikato. He lias reported on the North Island Trunk line of railway, and has spent many years in the Taranaki province.

He was much surprised at the vast areas of Government laud yet unoccupiod in the Waikato, and lying between the Waikato and Taranaki,—-Advertiser.

Mr Nantes, who has been acting as manager of the Union Company at Gisborne during the past month, returns to Napier next week. In the short time Mr Nantes has been in Gisborne,'he has given great satisfaction to the business and travelling public, the office work of the company being carried out in an admirable mariner, Although new to Gisborne, he quickly adapted himself to local requirements, and-he is to be especially com: mended upon the quick despatch given to the boats, In his work, Mr Nantes was ably assisted by Mr Holdsworth, who has been acting as assistant since Mr Hamblett left for Napier.
