SUPREME COURT,
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night.
At the Supreme Court James White and Frank Watson were arraigned on a charge of attempting to steal from J. A. Braithwaito the sum of .£lO9 13s 4d, in January last. White, who was out on bail, did not appear, and his bail was estreated. In Watson’s case,, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and he was discharged. Tho charge against John Holland, of carnally knowing a child under nine years of age, was proceeded with, but not concluded. THE SEVENTH CONTINGENT.
The Southland section of 22 men for the Seventh Contingent arrived this evening, and leave to-morrow, with the Otago men, for Wellington. THE RACES. Rain fell this afternoon after some fine weather, but it is expected to clear off by to-morrow for the D. J.C. races. The race for the Dunedin Cup is considered very open. GOLD RETURNS.
Tho Glenrock mine at Macctown returned 105 oz. from 100 tons of dirt.
