A SPOILT HOLIDAY. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, Saturday night. Heavy ram fell all last night, and again to-day, and put a stop to all amusements. A large number of visiting firemen have arrived for the annual Conference, and for the Demonstration which takes place next week. A ROBBERY. A lady in Addington left her houso for an hour yesterday, and on returning found it had been entered, and LI 13s 6d in money and over L 59 worth of jewellery had been stolen. CHURCH PARADE. A church parade in connection with the Fire Brigade demonstration took place this morning. Close upon five hundred firemen, with the fire police and members of the City Council, marched to the Cathedral, accompanied by the Garrison and Stanmore Bands. An appropriate service was held, the Rev. A. W. Campbell preaching. SEVENTH CONTINGENT. Out of the sixty men ordered into camp for the Seventh Contingent, about twenty have been rejected, and the others aro being trained. Staff Sergeant-Major Coloman expects to leave for Wellington about the end of the week.
