DEATH OF MR E. T. DUFAUR,
[Special to Times.] Auckland, last night. The death is announced of Mr E, T, Dufaur, solicitor, at the age of 51. Mr Dufaur, who frequently visited Gisborne, was particularly well acquainted with the land larys affecting the Maoris, and with Native matters generally, Deceased was a brother of the late Frederick Dufaur, who carried on business in Gisborne some years ago. It will bo remembered that in 1880 a sad fatality occurred off Ponsonby by the capsizing of a d’ngy conveying Frederick Dufaur and his brother in from their racing yacht, and the former was drowned. That day will ever bo remembered by Aucklanders, it being the stormiest over experienced in the northern part of this Island. OUR TOWN CLOCK. “ A Modest Request—Gisborne wants a Town Clock ” is the heading in big letters in a conspicuous part of this evening’s Star, in reference to a press message stating that a deputation from the Liberal Association waited on the PostmasterGeneral at Gisborne, and asked that as a commemoration of the visit of Mrs and Miss Seddon to Gisborne tho Government should supply a clock to tho new post ollice tower. A SAD FATE. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. The dead body of a man about 85 years of age was picked up in the harbor this afternoon.' The body has not yet’ been identified. A GENEROUS SYMPATHISER. In connection with the Maori Girls’ School, a sympathiser has made a donation of £IOO to start the new fund.
