The Hon. J. G. Ward, PostmasterGeneral, arrives in Gisborne this morning. Messrs J, H. Ormnnd and T. Holden returnod from Auckland by the Zealandia yesterday. Upon the present trip of the Zealandia, Captain Hipgrave is accompanied by Mrs Hipgrave. 'Colonel Pole-Penton, Commandant of the New Zealand Forces, arrives here this morning. The Premier, accompanied by Mrs and Miss Seddon, arrived from Auckland this morning by the Tutanekai. A good journey overland was recently made by Mr R. A. DeLautour. He rode from Auckland to his home at Kawaltawa, the journey occupying nine days. The Right Hon. the Premier wired to Mr Townley yesterday morning ; “ Self, Mrs Seddon, and Miss Seddon will be with you to-morrow. Kind regards.” The Tutanekai, which arrived this morning, is in command of Captain Post, who, though a young man, is one of the most able commanders in New Zealand waters.
Mr W. A. Thomson, President of the Northern Bowling Bowling Association, arrived from Auckland by the Zealandia yesterday on a visit to his sons, who have a sheep run in the Motu district. Mr T. Pollard, of opera fame, was a through passenger by the Zealandia for Dunedin yesterday. His company are at present playing in Sydney, but will shortly tour New Zealand.
The Mayoress, Mrs Townley, returned from Nuhaka yesterday, being much im- 1 proved in health by her sojourn at the Springs. Mrs Townley will this morning welcome Ministerial guests at her residence.
The Bev. Father O’Connor returned yesterday from his visit to Botorua. His many friends will be pleased to hear that he is much improved in health and able to resume his duties. He was met at the wharf by the Bev. Father Mulvihill and a number of members of St,'Mary’s Church. The Hon. J. Carroll loaves this evening for Napier, where he meets His Excellency the Governor and accompanies him on his Urewera tour. Mr Carroll will afterwards return to Gisborne, accompanied by the Minister for Lands, Hon. T. Duncan, whom Gisborne people will be pleasec] to meet. Mi-. A. Bull,.well and favorably known in Gisborne in connection with the Union Company, writes us from Hobart to. the following effeot: —“ I have received from a friend a copy of the first issue of the Gisborne Times, and I must say I consider it a very able edition, and I wish you success aud prosperity in your new venture.”
