HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.

A special meeting of the Hospital B .oard was held to-day to consider the question of providing accommodation for inebriates and tho admission of chronic cases, j Tho following motions were cariod, affcor a', good deal of discussion :—“ That a roo'm or rooms should be provided in tho ho spital for patients suffering from drink;” 1 ‘That in the opinion of this Board it is nec< jssary to make provision for cases of chroi lie or incurable disease occurring in this district;” “The most suitable provision would be by the erection of a special ward at the hospital; ” and “ A copy o f this resolution should be forwarded t o the Minister for Health, together wiLh the information asked for by him.” FARMERS AND FEDERATION. At a poorly-attended meeting of fi trmers to-day, called by the A. and P. Association to discuss federation, the following resolution was carried, “ That the various Agricultural and Pastoral Associations throughout Canterbury should be' requested to convene a meeting of farmers with a view to discussing the question of federation, and appointing delegate. l ! to attend a central meeting to be held during . March. COLLISION—MAN KILLED. As the afternoon train from Ashburton was coming into Middleton station, about threo miles from town, to-day, it came into collision with a trap driven by an elderly man, named Reuben Davis, chimney sweep. The train smashed tho trap to atoms, and threw Davis, out : on his head. His skull was fractured, and he died in a few seconds.
