In the House of Commons, Mr Balfour said that the Government intended to appoint a committee of both Houses to enquire into the question of ponsions for widows and orphans of soldiers who lost their lives in tho South African war. Viscount Cranbourne, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said the powers had been far too lenient with China. Great Britain had opposed tho expedition to the interior to enforce punishment.
