Melbourne, Feb. 13.
Messrs Barton, Kingston, and Drake addressed a large meeting in the Town Hall. Mr Barton spoke in advocacy of the trans-Continental railway and development of the Northern territory. Acts would he introduced to effectually minimise and to speedily put a stop to the introduction of Asiatics, as distinguished from South Sea Islanders. They would advance by gradual steps to a point where the importation of Kanaka labor would be abolished. Brisbane, Feb. 13. A meeting of sugar manufacturers carried a resolution deploring Mr Barton’s statement that he intended to abolish Kanaka labor. If sanctioned by the Federal .Parliament, and no other aliens were allowed to work, the sugar industry would they declared, be speedily extinguished. Perth, Feb. 13. Sir John Forrest has resigned the State Premiership. Mr Throssel, Minister of Lands, has been entrusted with the formation of a Ministry.
