The Cable Trouble.

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, Feb. 8.

The Herald says the sensational rumor afloat that the Pacific cable is in jeopardy, owing to Canada’s intended withdrawal, does not seem to have much behind it. Commenting on the position, it adds that since Mr Seddon has been in Melbourne he seems to have persuaded Victoria and Queensland to undertake to do nothing detrimental to the Pacific scheme by taking any important step at the present. It would appear that Canada creates delay and raises objection from whatever point of view she choses to look upon the question. The result seems to mean delay of the completion of the Pacific line and disappointment to Australian hopes. The Herald states it is quite time now the contract is signed that these States begau to act firmly for themselves in dealing with the question.
