STOCK SALES.

"The stock sale, hold by Messrs Williams and Kettle at the Matawhero yards yesterday, was one of the best hold in the district for a long time, and the business of the fair was not concluded until nearly G o’clock. There was almost a record attendance, and, in spito of tho heavy rain, buyers remained to the close. At the outset, bidding was slow; but after Mr Kennedy had put a little life into those present, things improved; and that gentleman was able to report almost every line cleared. Tho sheep and cattle yarded were all fairly average selling lines, and of good quality. For cattle, the entries were very large, there being close on 350 head, and prices were quite equal to those realised at last sale, and (in a number of cases) higher figures were paid. There was a good demand for dairy stock. Heifers were sold up to £4, 18-months’ to 2-year-old steers £3 los to £4, 3J to 4-year-old steers up to £5. Beef was not in strong demand, but a few beasts were quitted at prices ruling at the last few sales. Fat cows sold up to £G, steers £5 to £G. There was a good enquiry for all classes of sheep. Old ewes sold from 5s Sd to 8s Gd, fresh fullmouthed ewes 9s Gd, lambs from 6s to 8s Gd, store wethers 10s to 12s. The largest line of sheep was from Maraetaha, and brought from Ss to 8s 3d. Messrs Williams and Kettle also offered a number of two-tooth Lincoln rams on account of Mr W. Smith, and these were sold at 2J guineas each, whilst those submitted on account of Mr A. McKenzie were sold at three guineas. The firm are to be congratulated upon the successful nature of the sale. SALE AT PUHATIKOTIKO.
