MAORI COUNCILS. The folllowing notice under the Maori Councils Act, 1900, came to hand yesterday :—“ To the Electors of.. Takitimu Maori District: Take notice that on Tuesday, the fifth day of March, 1901, between the hours of 10 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon, in the Court House, Gisborne, the election of members for the Council of the Takitimu Maori District will be held. I, the undersigned, will be m attendance at Gisborne aforesaid on the day and between the hours before mentioned, to receive nominations of twelve (12) Maoris qualified to be members of the Council for the said district. Each elector may nominate not more than twelve (12) members. Each nomination may be verbal or in writing, delivered personally by the elector to mo. The attention of electors is drawn to the following instructions: (a) Every Maori of the age of twenty-one years and upwards residing within the district has a right to nominate, (b) Every Maori who has a right to nominate is qualified to be a member of the Council, (c) Each elector may nominate any number, not being more than twelve (12), of duly qualified Maoris to be members of the Council, (d) Each elector desiring to nominate must appear before me in person and declare his nomination, either verbally or in writing, as aforesaid. Dated the twenty-ninth day of January, 1901, at Gisborne.—John Brooking, Rej turning Officer for the Takitimu Maori District.”
