WAIROA RACES—SECOND DAY,

EXCITING RACING. A RECORD MEETING. [GISBORNE TIMES SPECIAL.] Wairoa, last night. There was splendid weather and a large attendance for the second day of the Wairoa races. The course was in splendid order. Some exciting finishes were witnessed, the Selling and Hack races especially. From a financial standpoint it was the most successful meeting ever held by the Club. The totalisator receipts were considerably in excess of those of previous meetings. The results wore

Hurdles. Waitio i Sylvanus 2 Pistol Grip 3 Scratched : Contrabino and Cronje. It was a pretty race for a mile, all the horses jumping together. Waitio then drew away, winning a good race by a length. Time 3.4 3-5, div. X'2 3s. Selling Race. Royal Flirt 1 Red Rose 2 Ilcna 8 This was a splendid race down the straight, Royal Flirt winning by a short head. Time 1.39, div.XT 15s. The winner was sold for Xl9 10s. Frasortown Handicap. Derringcottc 1 Daphne 2 Wilson 3 These wore the only starters. Wilson led until entering the straight, when Dcrringcottc and Daphne challenged him. A good race homo resulted in Derringcottc winning by half-a-length, the same distance separating second and third horses. Time ‘2.33-5, div. X'2 ‘2s. District l’late. Moonrakcr 1 Gorydon '2 I’atu ... '9 Contrabino also started. Scratched : To Mori and Hinctauparihi. Won by a length. Time 1.53 ‘2-5, div. XI 16s. llace Race. To Mori 1 Gorydon 2 Cronje ... ••• ••• 3 Also ran : Queen's Signal and Nukurau. This was the best race of the meeting. The horses were bunched together the whole way. Entering the straight- all whips were out. After a great race To Mori beat Gorydon by a head, the same distance separating Cronje from Gorydon. The others were only half-a-length away. Time 1.43 3-5, div. X 22 10s.

Flying. Wilson ... ... ••• 1 Honors 2 These were the only starters. Wilson won comfortably by two lengths. Timo 1.*20, div. X 0 11s. Scurry. Queen’s Signal 1 Red Rose 2 Nino started. This was a good race, and was won by. half a length. Time 1.7 1 -sth, div. X2 Bs. • Farewell Handicap. Daphne 1 The Weaver 2 Derringcottc ... ... 3 Also started : Pincpinctckura and Honors. Scratched: Sylvanus and Pistol Grip. The field got well away, and were bunched together to the back of the course, where Honors and Daphne drew away from the field, and raced together to entrance of straight, where the others again closed up. A good race homo resulted in Daphne winning by a length, the same distance separating the Weaver and Derringcottc. Time 1.48 l-sth, div. X 5 ss.

The h.s. Tangaroa left for Napier with the visitors and horses at 7.30, a groat crowd seeing them oft’. The sum of XI9SO was passed through I lie totalisator on the first day, and Xl9i)‘2 on the second day, making a total of X 3972 for tho meeting.
