RECENT COLLISION.

Tho magisterial enquiry into the collision between the s.s. Rotomahana and tho ketch Kestrel is to take place at Lyttelton on Wednesday next. A THOUGHTFUL PROPOSAL. The committee appointed at Lyttolfcon to make arrangements in connection with the arrival of the Imperial troops has decided to secure a supply of New Zealand fruit, to be placed on the Britannic for the use of the contingent on the voyage home. DEATH OF DEAN JACOBS. Dean Jacobs, who died to-night, arrived here on December 27th, 1850, by one of the first four ships. He was the first head master of Christ’s College, and was ap. pointed Dean of Christchurch in 1866.
