Wellington, last night. Until further notice, there will be no quarantine restrictions on vessels arriving in New Zealand from Australian ports.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, 4th : “ The average price of choicest butter is 108 s, market steady; cheese 525, market dull. There is a better demand for hemp. Fair current Manila is at £3O 10s, good fair Wellington ,£22 10s. There is a stock of 1221 tons, as against 219 tons last year. Cocksfoot, 201 b standard, is at 33s per cwt. At Carterton Mr W. C. Buchanan, the unsuccessful candidate at last election, was prosecuted by the returning officer for not making a return of his election expenses, and was fined £lO and costs.

The Supreme Court was unable to sit to-day, owing to the indisposition of the Chief Justice.

Sixty-three railway carriages, made at St. Louis, United States, for the Government railways, have been shipped. An expert is coming with them to direct their erection. Westinghouse brakes have been fitted for sufficient carriages for use on the Napier-Wellington section, and the engines will be equipped on the arrival of a new shipment of material, which is daily expected.

Napier, last night. In accordance with the decision of the Appeal Court, the Jockey Club has decided to pay R. W. Paterson the amount of stakes won by his horses at the Spring Meeting. . No action was taken relative to disqualification.

Auckland, last night. The Barrier Reefs return for 22 days from plates and concentrates was £3380 10s 2d, the product of 1105 tons. Next month the cyanide plant, now completed, will add to the return. The manager estimates that the block opened up contains ore worth £140,000. New Plymouth, last night. The Minister of Lands arrived from South last night. He received a deputation this morning, and leaves for Auckland overland this afternoon.
