COAL TRIMMERS’ STRIKE,
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright .Newcastle, last night. The coal trimmers have resumed work, the Railway Commissioners having remitted the fines. It is explained that they were inflicted by local officers without the Commissioners’ knowledge or consent. The trimmers also obtained further concession in the abolition of shifts commencing on Saturday and Sunday nights. CANADA’S PIQUE. Melbourne, Feb. 5. The Government are said to have received to-day a cable from the Government of Canada, stating that as four Australian Governments have granted concessions to the Eastern Extension Cable Company in connection with the Cape cable, Canada washed its hands entirely of the Pacific cable. VICTORIAN PREMIER. Mr Turner, who has a seat on the Federal Ministry, has handed in his resignation as State Premier, and has advised that Mr Peacock be sent for to reconstruct the Ministry. Mr Peacock waits upon the. LieutenantGovernor to-morrow. CRICKET. Sydney, last night. The New South Wales second innings closed for 452 —Trumper 230, Duff 75, Kelly, not out 28. In Victoria’s second innings there was one wicket down for 74—Graham (not out) 35.
