Details of the proclamation of the King show that the Deputy Garter King of the College of Arms read the proclamation from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Earl Roberts and various officers of State were present. A fanfare of trumpets was sounded 1 and the National Anthem played by the band of the Foot Guards, amidst great cheering. A red cordon placed across the Strand symbolised the Temple Bar, which no longer exists. Here the Lord Mayor and Corporation awaited the Duke of Norfolk, Earl Marshall, accompanied by the Heralds and Pursuivants. The Junior Pursuivant having obtained permission to enter the city, a stately procession proceeded, the civic dignitaries joining in. At the end of Chancery Lane the trumpeters blew a fanfare, and the Herald, attired in a rich tabard, read the proclamation. The crowds cheered tumultuously. The procession proceeded to the steps of the Royal Exchange, where another fanfare was blown, and the proclamation was read before an immense concourse of people. The stock brokers and city men cheered the King from the balcony of the Mansion House. The Lord Mayor invited the crowd to sing the National Anthem, which invitation met met with an immediate response, the singing being followed by tumultuous cheers. The Mayor supplied refreshments to the Heralds and officials of the College of Arms. A Royal salute of 101 guns was fired at Aldershot. The warships wore dressed, and Royal salutes fired at many places. The King was also proclaimed at Winchester, Dublin, and other cities. The Judges and King’s Counsel have been re-, sworn. The Times and many other newspapers are agitating for a comprehensive Royal title, so as to include Australasia and the other dependencies of the Empire, A proclamation has been issued requiring all authorities and Governments to proceed with the execution of their respective offices. “ The King and the Council ” has been altered in the Prayer-book’s prayer for the Royal Family, substituting for it the name of Albert Edward, following the words “ our Gracious King.” Alexandra George, the Duke-of Cornwall, and York, the Duchess of Cornwall and York.

Grand Duke Hesse, Crown Prince of Denmark, and many other Royalties will attend. The Kaiser remains in England until the end of the ceremonies. The warships Hohenzollern and. Kaiser Wilhelm will also remain in British waters. The Queen’s body will be removed to Windsor on February Ist via London. The Channel Squadron escorts it to Portsmouth. The funeral will take place at Windsor, and the interment at Frogmore, on Saturday, 2nd February. The Queen expressed a wish for a military funeral, which is interpreted as a proof of her love for the army, of which she was technically the head. There will be general mourning for - six weeks at Malta. The Australian troops under General Dclislc heard of the death of Her Majesty the Queen on arriving at -Clanwilliam, and were terribly shocked and grieved. Van Wyck, the Tammany Mayor of New York, alone refuses to lialf-mast his Hag in the Queen’s honor. Along miles of Fifth Avenue drooping flags are displayed. English competitors and several Australians declined to shoot for the Two Thousand Guineas pigeon prize at Monto Carto as a sign of mourning, though it was considered that Macintosh, the Australian, would prove the winner. There will be no lying in state beyond the coffin being a few days in the Osborne dining-room. The Ministry have sworn allegiance to the King. The Duke of Norfolk notifies that it is expected, in pursuance of the order of the King in Privy Council yesterday, that all persons will keep mourning from the 28tli. The Dutch churches at the Cape arc draped in black. The Dutch and British for the first tune for many years are sincerely united in sorrow and mourning. The burghers at Pretoria show respectful sympathy. Professor Hubert Herkomer, the distinguished artist, has sketched the Queen lying in state.
