THE WELLINGTON MEETING,

YESTERDAY’S RESULTS

A FULL REPORT.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. At the Wellington Raoing Club’s Summer Meeting, second day, the weather was fine until the conclusion of the last race, when steady rain set in. - The attendance was limited, not more than 2000 persons being present. The sum of £10,437 was put through the totalisator, making a total of £27,180 for the two days, against £2<J,743 for the two days of the Summer Meeting last year. The results are as under:—

January Handicap, of 125 sovs, second horse 10 sovs from the stake; 1 mile 1 furlong.

5G Mr G. Hunter’s br c Sirius, by Dread-nought-Planet. 3yrs, 0.11, King .. 1 76 Mr P. Barry’s Ruamahunga, aged, 7.8, Fowler 2 149 Mr F. Walcott’s gr m Queen’s Guard, aged, 7.5, Wilson .. .. .. 3

Also started—2l4 Strathnairn, 0.0; 139 Cameo, S. 10; 364 The Shannon, 8.0; 126 Hotu. 7.4; 69 Perfection, 6.11. From an oven start, Perfection showed the way out of the straight, the others being well bunched. Under the hill Ruamahunga ran up to the leader, and the pair entered the back stretoh together, with Sirius and Cameo racing a length away. Then came Hotu on the outside, while Strathnairn was fading away to nothing and several lengths in the rear. Nearing the road Sirius drew away from Cameo and set sail after the leaders, while Queen’s Guard, too, made a forward movement. Perfection soon gave way, and as the field turned into the straight Sirius had charge, with Queen’s Guard seoond. Tho latter, however, seeing pursuit of the colt was hopeless, eased up and allowed Ruamahunga to get second place, two lengths behind the winner, The Shannon, who was favorite, finished next to last., Time 2.0, totalisator £1193, div. £l9 3s. Electric Handicap, of 100 sovs. Second

horse 10 sovs from the stakes; 5 furlongs, 250 Mr J. R. Corrigan’s b m Cora Linn, by Foul Shot—Lalla Rookh, syrs, B'9, C. Jenkins .. 104 Mr E. Laurent’s b g Full Cry, 4yrs, 7-2, carried 7-5, Barlow 77 Mr J. B. Reid’s eh g Spider, 4yrs, 7-11, Pine .. .. ..

On the barrierlifting St. Denis whipped round and extinguished his chance. Cora Linn was quickest to move, but after going a furlong Chasseur was alongside of her, with Spider a length away. At the turn Cora Linn on the inside had a couple of lengths the best of the field, but rounding the turn Full Cry came through the field in great style, and at the distance was nearly on torms with the leader, and a short but fierce struggle under the whip ended in favor of the mare by a little over a neck. Time 1.3 4-5. Totalisator £llß2, div. £4 ss.

Wellington Racing Club Handicap, of 400 sovs; second horse 50 sovs, and third horse 10 sovs from stake; 1] miles. 189 Mr D. The start was delayed for a quarter of an hour owing to the fractiousness of Boreas and Paladin, and eventually when the field was despatched without the aid of the machine Paladin turned round and took no part in the tho race. Palaver, Battleaxe, and Renown were the leading division as they swept past the stand, with Kahuwai last. Palaver was still in front along by the hill, where she was joined by Mataroa, and a little later on Occur de Lion was only a length behind the leaders, while Boreas and Skobeloff were last. As they raced along the back stretch there was little change in the positions. Renown was then lying fourth, and Boreas began to move closer to his field. As the straight was approached the loaders were almost bunched, Palaver, Materoa, Coeur de Lion, and Boreas being in line as they turned home, with the favorite on the rails only a. length away. Another few strides saw Boreas in front, and coming on as straight .as an arrow, won rather easily from the game little daughter of Torpedo by a bare length, Palaver a a similar distance away third, with Coeur de Lion a neck behind the latter. Time, 2.13. Totalisator £2002. Div., £9 10s

When fairly on their feet Wind Whistle, Canteen, and Kowhete were racing together a length in front of Rere, the others stringing out. At the turn Canteen and Wind Whistle were in front, but the former soon gave way to Rere, who appeared to have the race in hand, but inside the distance Wind Whistle, under the whip, got on terms, and a punishing finish saw the latter flash past the post a long neck to the good.
