ZEALANDERS.

THE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS,

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, last night. The Christchurch men who returned to New Zealand from South Africa by the Orient arrived to-night. In spite of the heavy ram a large crowd assembled iC I the railway station, and the men were cheered heartily. Owing to the death of the Queen no formal ceremony took place. Mr A. Sin art. secretary of the New Zealand Swimn)irig Association received a cable message from Melbourne this morning asking if Mr Champion had left New Zealand for Melbourne, as tire amateur swimming championship in that city would likely be postponed on account of the Queen’s death. Mr Champion is, however, now on his way to Melbourne.
