THE SENTENCES INCREASED.

Last year judgment was given at Brussels Court on the criminal prosecution instituted by Dr Leyds, the Transvaal representative in Europe, against Baron Openheim, his brother, and four other persons, in connection with the promotion of the Selati Railway Company hi Belgium, to build the Selati Railway in the Transvaal.
The two Openheims and their advocate, Henri Warnant, were found guilty and sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. Terwague was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Louis Warnant and Braeannier were acquitted. On an appeal being made to the Brussscls Court, the latter eonkrmed the acquittal of Louis Warnant and Braeannier, but increased the sentence on Eugene Opcnlieini to three years’ imprisonment, and Henri Warnant to eighteen months’ imprisonment.
Tonvaguc’s term of imprisonment was increased to twelve months. Robert Openheim is reported to be ill.
