Execution of “Jimmy” Governor.
WITNESSED BY VICTIMS’ RELATIVES.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, last night. Jimmy Governor was executed this morning. Ab the condemned man left his cell and walked to the scaffold, he made an attempt to appear calm, smoking a cigarette. He tcok hia place on the drop, and in reply to tho usual question, said, “ I’ve nothing to say. ” As tho fatal moment approached he gave evidence of fainting. The bolt was drawn, and death was instantaneous.
Amongst the spectators at the execution of Jimmy Governor, the Breelong black who murdered five people and ravaged two young women, was George Mawbey, the brother of the man whose family was so ruthlessly massacred. After the execution Mawbey was heard to remark, “ Now I am satisfied. I would never have been satisfied unless I had seen this.”
