Melbourne, last night.
An inquiry into the Ormuz-Ismailia collision found Pilot Emmerson, of the Ormuz, Wameable. It is understood that, owing to a blunder in tbe procedure, the inquiry is nugatory. Mason, Eirth, and McCutcheon’o printing works, Little Collins street, have been destroyed by fire. The stock was valued at £12,000, and waa insured for £7OOO.
Mr-Barton, in his speech at Maitland, said the Ministry did not intend t o make appointments to the Judiciary until Parliament had decided how it would mould the legislation which tho Government would present. They were not going to be carried away by military aggression, but wanted to bo able to say whatevor we expect the Empire to render in time of our need we are ready to tender her as a matter of common fairness.
The Herald says that, while MiBarton is not as definite as was anticipated, he made it clear he would submit a policy based on the lines of a moderate protective tariff.
