ROWING.

The two final heats of the first round of the Poverty Bay Bowing Club’s handicap double sculls were rowed last evening, considerable interest being taken in the events. In the first heat A. W. Kirk and W. Roderick, 6seo, met A. Russell and R. Kellett Bsec. The latter made good use of their handicap, and despite the efforts of Kirk and Roderick to get on terms, they maintained their lead, and won a good race by a length.

The second heat was between F. Fox and and J. Glennie, 4sec, and A. Kirk and J Muir, Bsec. Kirk and Muir got a good lead with their handicap, and though Fox and Glonnie rowed well throughout, they were unable to pass their opponents, who won a hard race by half a length. The second round will be started this evening, when three races will be rowed. The, crews will row as followsD. West and J. Newtcn, Gsec, v. Arch. Kirk and J. Muir, Bsec; J. Webb and J. Parker, scr, v. A. Russell and R. Kellett, Bsec; A Pritchard and R. Jones, scr, v. J. Poole and H. Taylor, 2sec. These races should produce some close and exciting finishes. The ore,ws competing in the first race will leave the shed at 5 o'clock sharp. : •
