YOUTH SHOOTS FOUR CHILDREN PICKING FLOWERS
(10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 27. Oliver Trepanning, a farm boy aged 16, when arrested at Toledo, Ohio, for questioning concerning the killing of four children with whom he went wild flower gathering at Imlay City, Michigan, yesterday, allegedly confessed that he shot them. When the .bodies of the children were found, they wore still clutching bunches of violets and lilies. Each was shot through the back of the head. The victims, all members of the same family, were Barbara Smith, aged 16, Stanley, aged 14, Gladys, aged 12, and Janet, aged 10. Trepcnning gave no rea.un for the shooting. He seemed dazed when questioned. He told his parents that he planned to visit some neighbours, but after the shooting lie hitch-hiked to Port Huron. Michigan.
